Basic Information about Generic Soma
Generic Soma: The facts on carisoprodol
Generic Soma is a term used to refer to the base medication called carisoprodol, as opposed to the branded form called Soma. Carisoprodol is essentially a muscle relaxant. It acts on the central skeletal system, and is designed to treat pain in the musculoskeletal system. Generic Soma, or carisoprodol, is widely used in North America. It is sold in the United States as Soma, but goes by plenty of other names in other countries. Physically, carisoprodol is a crystal-like powder that tastes bitter. Carisoprodol was first conceptualized in 1959 and was originally thought to be an antiseptic. However, it turned out to have muscle relaxing effects and was eventually marketed as Soma. The drug was based on meprobamate and was intended to have effective muscle relaxing properties but make it safe and with less tendency to cause addiction. Despite this, the drug is still potentially habit-forming, which is why doctors do not prescribe the medicine unless completely necessary. In fact, in some countries, carisoprodol is a strictly controlled substance. In the United States, it is simply labeled as a prescription medicine and can be taken as long as there is a prescription and upon close monitoring to avoid abuse and addiction. Carisoprodol has proven itself effective for pain caused by muscle spasms, but has plenty of other medical uses that you can ask your physician about. The drug is available in its base form, or can also be mixed with other medications. There are variations of the drug including one mixed with aspirin and another with codeine or caffeine. The drug itself contains active ingredients, which include potassium sorbate, starch, alginic acid, and a lot more.
How to take generic Soma
Take Soma pills three times a day. The recommended doses are either 250 mg or 350 mg. Ideally, one dose should be taken before going to sleep. Soma should only be taken up to a maximum period of three weeks, after which the potential for addiction becomes so much greater. If you have been taking Soma for three weeks and no effects are observed, stop taking the medications. There are no studies that prove greater effectiveness of the drug when taken for longer periods of time, so when your doctor prescribes a weeklong medication, stick to that period. If no effects are seen, your doctor will consider other treatment options. Soma tablets are round white tablets with SOMA plus the dosage engraved on one side. The pills are available in packages of 100. It should be kept in a room with temperature at 25 celsius and kept away from heat and moisture to avoid breakdown of the drug.
Generic Soma drug uses and side effects
Intake of carisoprodol should be strictly supervised by a licensed health professional. If not, many adverse results may occur. Aside from potential addiction, the drug can trigger certain side effects that range from simply unpleasant to seriously life-threatening. These Soma side effects can also affect various body systems. Soma, when improperly or excessively taken, can result to hypotension, facial flusing, vertigo, tremors and chills, headache, drowsiness, sleep disorders, depression, convulsions or seizures, anxiety, nausea, epigastric problems, and vomiting. In extreme cases, paralysis may even occur. Death from overdose of Soma has been reported. And aside from causing side effects on its own, some adverse reactions may also result from the incompatible combination of Soma with other drugs. If you are taking Soma, avoid the use of CNS depressants and inhibitors. Soma should also not be taken by pregnant women. The drug belongs to pregnancy category C, which means that its effects on pregnancy and fetal growth have been tested on animals. Based on the studies, it was found that the drug can pass through the placenta and adversely affect the growth of the fetus. It can cause malformations in the fetus, or can even affect the fetus’s survival. Although Soma may be administered to nursing mothers, there is a risk of decreased breastmilk production. In case of dangerous side effects and overdosage, medical help should be sought immediately. If medical attention is provided within one hour after overdosage intake, a gastric lavage can be performed. However, if one hour has passed, this may not prove to be effective anymore. In case of seizures, treatment should include benzodiazepines, which should be administered intravenously.
